Exploring fixed and growth mindsets in teaching

What I find most interesting about this book, Mindset, is just how prevalent the fixed and the growth mindset are. I guess I mean or, you know, you only really have one or the other. At first, I thought that it was just about how you viewed yourself, like what you're capable of, but it's really how you view the rest of the world and with the rest of the world, how you interact with the rest of the world.

The example he gives is of Jamie Escalante, who taught at Garfield High School. He taught calculus to inner city kids. He actually made this into a movie called Stand and Deliver. And what really started to clench this for me is the way that Dweck explains Escalante's mindset. He didn't ask, can I teach these kids? He said, how can I teach them best? He didn't ask, can they learn? He said, how can they learn best?

So I'm trying to, throughout the day, catch myself in my thought processes and say, is that a fixed mindset or is that a growth mindset? And I'm finding a lot of fixed mindsets, which I'm going to outlearn.
